UNH College Grad Session with Best Friends

Graduation sessions are always special, but there’s something extra fun about documenting this season alongside your best friend.

These two roommates wanted a joint UNH college grad session at the University of New Hampshire to celebrate not only graduating, but also the friendship they built during their time in college. After spending so much of their college experience together, it was important for them to capture this milestone side-by-side before heading into their next chapters.

Best Time for UNH Graduation Photos: Golden Hour Lighting

One of the biggest things we focused on while planning their session was choosing the right time of day. Lighting makes such a huge difference in portraits, especially on a busy college campus. We scheduled their session during golden hour so we could take advantage of soft, flattering light while avoiding the harsh midday sun. This also helped us create a warm, glowy feel that matched the excitement of graduation season.

Best UNH Graduation Photo Locations in Durham, NH

We made sure to hit some of the most iconic locations around University of New Hampshire, including Thompson Hall (aka T-Hall), the library, and of course the cherry blossoms that were in bloom during their session. These spots gave their gallery a variety of backdrops while still keeping their photos rooted in meaningful places from their college experience in Durham, NH.

Why a Joint Grad Session Can Help You Feel More Comfortable

One of my favorite parts of the session was how naturally they made each other laugh. Between poses, they were hyping each other up—which led to some of the most genuine moments in their gallery. Their laughter made the session feel effortless and gave us those candid photos that everyone loves.

That’s one reason I always tell graduates that bringing a friend can make your session feel so much more relaxed. If you’re nervous about being in front of the camera, doing your grad photos with someone you’re comfortable with can help you loosen up, have fun, and create memories together.
