NH Maternity Photo Session at Great Island Common in Newcastle, NH

When a Babymoon Turns Into the Perfect Maternity Session

One of my favorite things about being an NH maternity photographer is getting to meet families from all over who choose the Seacoast as the backdrop for an important season of life. This maternity session was especially memorable because it took place during a babymoon getaway to the beautiful Seacoast of New Hampshire.

This couple traveled from New York for a relaxing weekend before welcoming their baby. While they were in town, they wanted to document this exciting chapter with maternity photos that felt natural, meaningful, and connected to the coastal landscape they were enjoying during their trip.

Planning Around a New England Weather Forecast

Like many outdoor photography sessions in New England, Mother Nature had her own plans. When we originally scheduled their maternity session, the forecast wasn’t looking promising. Rain and unfavorable conditions threatened our planned Saturday evening session. Since the couple only had a few days in the area, we worked together to find a solution that would fit within their travel schedule.

As a Seacoast photographer, flexibility is one of the most important parts of creating a successful client experience. Rather than settling for less-than-ideal conditions, we made the decision to move the session to sunrise the following morning.

Why Sunrise Was the Best Decision

The early wake-up call was absolutely worth it. When we arrived at Great Island Common in Newcastle, NH, we were greeted with soft morning light, peaceful surroundings, and something that’s hard to find on Seacoast beaches during busier times of day: complete privacy.

The beach was nearly empty, allowing us to move around freely and create images that felt intimate and relaxed. The soft sunrise light wrapped everything in a beautiful glow, creating the perfect atmosphere for maternity portraits.

Even though the weekend temperatures were colder than expected, this couple embraced the experience with smiles and excitement. They were determined to make the most of their babymoon and create lasting memories before their little one arrived.

A Reminder That Flexibility Creates the Best Photos

One of the biggest takeaways from this session is that flexibility often leads to the best results. While changing plans at the last minute isn’t always ideal, being willing to adjust based on weather conditions can completely transform a session.

By moving to sunrise, we avoided the poor weather, gained beautiful light, and had an empty beach almost entirely to ourselves. The result was a collection of maternity photographs that feel timeless, peaceful, and full of anticipation for the journey ahead.
