My top 10 poses for Newborn sessions
Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most beautiful milestones, and I feel so lucky to be invited into your home to capture those early days. As a newborn photographer serving families in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, I focus on creating images that feel relaxed, real, and full of love. Here’s a little peek into the typical poses I include in an in-home newborn session—each one thoughtfully designed to showcase your baby just as they are in those fleeting first weeks.
1. In the Moses Basket
I’ll place your baby in my neutral-toned Moses basket. It offers a timeless and natural setting that keeps the focus on your little one. It’s especially great for sleepy, cozy portraits. Bonus points if you have a pretty rug!
2. Parent Looking Out the Window
There’s something so peaceful about a parent holding their baby near a bright window. Whether standing in the nursery or living room, this pose captures quiet moments of reflection and connection.
3. Parent Kissing the Baby
A timeless image that never gets old—your love, sealed with a kiss. This pose is all about tenderness and closeness.
4. In Front of the Crib Looking Into the Nursery
I love capturing this perspective. It’s a symbolic moment—one that shows how this space is now filled with love and new life.
5. Sibling Snuggles
If there’s an older sibling in the house, we always make space for sibling cuddles. Whether they’re lying beside baby on the bed or gently kissing their forehead, these moments are full of personality and connection.
6. Mirror Image
There’s something magical about a parent holding their baby in front of a mirror. It adds a layer of storytelling—seeing both the moment and the reflection. It’s one of my favorite ways to create a unique, artistic image right in your own home.
7. With the Family Dog
If your pup is part of the family, they’re always welcome to join in! I love capturing your dog sitting nearby, sniffing baby gently, or simply lying at your feet—it adds so much heart to the session.
8. In the Crib
Whether baby is awake or snoozing, a few shots in the crib are a beautiful way to document their nursery. It’s also a great opportunity to highlight any special bedding, heirlooms, or decor.
9. Detail Shots
The curl of a tiny toe, the grip of their fingers, the fuzzy swirl of newborn hair—these little details are what you’ll miss most. I always take time to capture them thoughtfully and artistically.
10. In Front of the House
This is a special one! I always suggest a quick photo outside your home. It’s a meaningful way to document where this journey began—your baby’s first home. Every family is unique, and no two sessions are exactly alike. But these poses give us a foundation to work from while allowing plenty of space for spontaneous moments. My goal is always to create images that feel like you —filled with warmth, love, and connection. Expecting a baby in Massachusetts or New Hampshire?
