One Year Photo Session Sprinkle Toes

If you’re planning a one year photo session in Southern New Hampshire or north of Boston , you’re probably envisioning adorable cake-covered smiles, chubby baby toes, and milestone moments you’ll treasure forever. That’s exactly what this family hoped for when they booked a cake smash session to celebrate their baby girl’s first birthday—but with one little twist!

This session took place just north of Boston in a studio setting with a clean, white background . Simplicity was the goal, so the baby (and the cake!) could be the stars of the show. I worked with the parents to select the perfect setup—one that would photograph beautifully and keep all the focus on their one-year-old’s personality.

And wow, did her personality shine through! We were all expecting frosting-covered giggles, but instead, we got something even more hilarious: she didn’t like the taste of the cake at all! She gave it one bite and made a face like, “No thanks.” But then—she discovered that putting her feet in the cake was way more fun. Before long, her toes were covered in frosting, and I was capturing the cutest, quirkiest photos that truly showed who she is at this age: curious, playful, and completely original.

Even though the session didn’t go exactly as planned, the photos turned out to be some of my favorites. As a family New Hampshire family photographer, one of the things I love most about one year milestone sessions is how unpredictable and real they are. Whether your baby loves the cake or just wants to squish it between their toes, these moments are always worth documenting.

If you’re in Southern New Hampshire or north of Boston and thinking about a first birthday photo session , I’d love to help you plan something sweet, simple, and totally tailored to your little one’s personality.
